This species was described from Honshu. It inhabits the underbark of dead trees. It is somewhat similar to P. brevitubus, but can be distinguished by the body bicolored with brown and yellow, and the legs largely yellowish. This genus belongs to the tribe Plectrothripini because the campaniform sensillum of the antennal segment II is located closer to the base of the segment. Fungus-feeder.
